Historical black-and-white views from 1993
I remember that in the winter of 1992/93 I’d bought a second-hand, no-name full-range zoom lens for very little money, which naturally needed to be tried out. So on 31 January 1993, a very cold Sunday morning, I set off and took some photos at Münster’s inland port, right near where I was living at the time. (Incidentally, the lens wasn’t much use – the sharpness left a great deal to be desired! So it soon ended up at the flea market.) I still like some of these pictures today.
Incidentally, the pictures now have a certain historical value, as a few months after these were taken, the large-scale redevelopment of the harbour area into Münster’s current club and pub district began. The widening of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, which was undertaken a little later, went hand in hand with the virtual phasing out of Münster’s old harbour – these days, ships no longer dock here to load or unload, but only if the captain fancies a dance or a drink...
